My name is Andrew Thompson and I will be your male waxing therapist. I've been working on bodies for nearly three decades. Many waxing places claim to be unisex but mine is the only truly inclusive waxing studio where both guys and girls are treated the same.

Reef does not pretend to be a glamorous beauty salon. It's blokey and relaxed. Sure, I do other specialised beauty treatments too, but at the center of it all is Men's Waxing.
Men's waxing isn't just a tagged on service here - It's what I'm best known for. In fact, my first shop in Brisbane was the very first Male Waxing studio in Queensland. Throughout the beauty industry, Reef is regarded as THE pioneer and specialist studio.
That's not a boast, but some serious comfort for guys who are considering a first time wax and don't know who to trust.
I want to show you that removing men's body hair is one of my specialties, and I want my male clients to feel comfortable in their surroundings.
So that's the big sell. I hope you liked it 😊
Below, you'll find loads of info on Men's Waxing as well as prices and preparation tips.
Call me on 4926 7778 or 0422 276 202 if you have any questions or to make a booking. You can also book online.
Have a brilliant day,
Andrew Thompson.

How much does male waxing hurt?
As a general guide, the feeling is like being slapped with a plastic ruler and fades quickly. Follow up treatments are gentler than the first, as the hair hasn't had time to fully develop.

Why do guys get waxed?
Men usually get waxed to satisfy their sense of self-image, increase comfort, or because their partners prefer the smooth look.

I possess male genitalia but identify as gender-fluid. Will you charge me female pricing?
If I am waxing male body parts, you will be charged male pricing.
If you are post-operative transgender and have physically transitioned to female anatomy, I will honour female pricing for small body areas, i.e. under arms, snail, nipples, hands, and feet.
For larger body areas, I will consider female pricing on a case by case basis.
Again, this will depend on your physique, e.g. the physical size and coverage density of the legs of a 180cm male will take much longer to treat than those of a 160cm female, so naturally there will be a price difference.

Do many guys get waxed? What do they wax?

Naturally, except for a few hereditary or medical situations, most hair growth occurs upon puberty and beyond. The range and reasons for seeking hair removal treatments are diverse, and chances are, my clients are not so different to you.
To date, my youngest male client is a 9 year old boy with a monobrow, and my oldest an 87 year old man who wanted to surprise his wife for their wedding anniversary.

What are the most common areas that men get waxed?
A back wax is definitely the most common area as both men and their partners find hairy backs irritating, night and day. Close second and third places would be bums and Brazilians.

Can you perform massage after a waxing treatment?
Yes, if you also want remedial massage, I can do that using after-wax lotion instead of oil to minimise the chance of infection.
What could prevent me having a male waxing treatment?
To save replication here, this article in the Reef Knowledge Base lists the contraindications and reasons why you may not be suitable for treatment.

I'm curious about getting IPL instead. Can I find out more?
Sure. The IPL page is the biggest section of the website. To save replication here, check out:

Will my Therapist be male or female?

I shouldn't have to qualify this question but I will. Your therapist will be me, Andrew Thompson, a male with 20+ years experience in the Australian beauty industry, and over 30 years working with naked human bodies as an artist, sports practitioner, remedial massage therapist, and acupuncturist.
If you have issues with my gender, regardless of my experience and unblemished reputation over three decades, I really hope you go somewhere else.

Can you do a waxing outcall to my home?
Unfortunately no, it would make the treatment too expensive. Wax pots take around 40 minutes to heat up, and we would have to charge for that time. If we preheat the pots, then we risk spillage during transportation, which again is a costly (and messy) affair.
| return to index |
Is waxing permanent?
Over a long period, waxing may have a general thinning effect but if you stop waxing, it will regrow to something near its previous levels. This of course depends on your age.
| return to index |
Can I book a spray tan for after my wax?
Unfortunately no. The after-wax lotion will create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution. Ideally you should leave the after-wax lotion on, then go for a spray tan in a day or two.
